Dry body brushing

A soft-bristle brush over dry skin before showering. Pleasant, briefly stimulating, and gently exfoliating.

Dry body brushing — illustrative
About 4 minutes
Two or three times a week

How to do it

  1. 1On dry skin, brush from the feet upwards in long strokes towards the heart.
  2. 2Light pressure, no scrubbing. Skip the face.
  3. 3Shower afterwards and moisturise while skin is damp.

What the evidence says

Claims about detoxification are not supported. What it reliably does is remove loose surface flakes and feel invigorating.

Be careful if

  • Avoid on eczema-prone, broken, sunburnt or very reactive skin.
  • Stop if skin looks irritated.
