Pairing

Combining Retinaldehyde

  • With Glycolic Acid — caution

    Vitamin A and AHAs in the same routine can overload the barrier. Most people do better alternating them on different evenings.

  • With Salicylic Acid — caution

    Using a retinoid and a BHA together can cause dryness and flaking. Consider using them on alternate nights.

  • With Benzoyl Peroxide — concern

    Benzoyl peroxide can degrade some vitamin A derivatives and the pair is frequently irritating. Use at different times of day.

  • With Ceramides — good

    Ceramides help offset the dryness a retinoid can cause. A sensible pairing.

  • With UV Filters — good

    Daily SPF is strongly advised whenever you use a vitamin A product.
